Our Approach to Teen Ministry
-
We share the gospel of Jesus Christ with teens calling them to repent of sin and believe in Christ alone for salvation (Romans 1:16; Mark 1:14-15; John 14:6). Our youth ministry then helps Christian teens follow Jesus Christ through encouraging baptism and church membership, providing opportunities to grow as a Christian in discipleship, and serving Christ and His church through ministry (Acts 2:41-47). We use the Bible in our youth ministry for both evangelism and discipleship, helping teenagers know how to read, understand, and apply the Bible to their lives (2 Timothy 3:14-16).
-
Since God has entrusted parents with primary responsibility to evangelize and disciple their teenage children, our youth ministry partners with parents. We encourage and equip parents to fulfill their God given calling raising their children (Deuteronomy 6:4-9; Ephesians 6:4). Additionally, our youth ministry provides a reinforcing supplement to the parental investment at home.
-
Our youth ministry does not exist in a separate bubble from the rest of our church, but rather functions as an integral part of our church (Titus 2:2-8). We encourage teenagers to faithfully attend, become members, and contribute to the ministry of our church in meaningful ways beyond the youth ministry. As a result, our teens will see from within our membership models and mentors of Christ-likeness from all generations and seasons of life (1 John 2:12-14). We work to help teenagers love their local church, not just their youth group.
-
The teen years are transitional years from childhood to adulthood. Our youth ministry works with parents to help teens on their journey toward adult maturity. Because we recognize the unique challenges and blessings of being a teenager (Ecclesiastes 12:1), activities, events, and elements of the youth ministry are shaped to address this unique season of life in a way that connects with teens (1 Corinthians 9:20-22). At the same time, we seek to provide a vision to help teenagers mature into adulthood (1 Corinthians 13:11; 2 Timothy 2:22).
