Our Story
Our Beginning
Calvary Baptist Church started in 1967 when a small group of Christians began meeting at a home in the Strathmore section of Matawan, NJ. The small group formed into a church and began meeting at Strathmore Elementary School. Within a year, the church purchased the property at our current location that contained only a house and garage. The members began worshiping in the two-car garage and met for Bible studies in the three-bedroom house. By God’s grace the garage was filling up, so the church built its current facility in 1977.
Christ’s Work Across the Decades
Through the decades God has allowed us to share the gospel with members of our community, help plant several churches, and partner with like-minded ministries in NYC and central NJ. Families continue to be the heartbeat of our church as multiple generations of kids, teens, and parents follow Christ together as part of our church community. While many faces have changed across the decades, Calvary Baptist Church remains a vibrant and caring spiritual community bringing the message of Jesus to Aberdeen, Matawan and beyond.
